New Year in Mexico

In my country, celebrations for the New Years starts on December 31. That night everyone gathers around: cousins, grandparents, parents and their children. They give their opinion about what the dinner should be. Everyone pitches in to make tamales, bunuelos, roast chicken, turkey, or posole. We also buy grapes and apple cider for the toast. All the food is put on a especially decorated table. On the table are wine glasses filled with twelve grapes, they represent the 12 months in a year. Later the family gathers around the table. At 12 seconds before 12 o’clock everyone begins to eat the grapes. Once 12 hits, everyone opens up their apple cider and begins to toast and hug each other. We wish each other the best in the new year, from the grandfather to the last grandson. Then we pray for a moment. We begin to eat our dinner and dance around 'til the very next morning. Some sleep while others continue celebrating. In conclusion, New Years is a festive, family event in my country of Mexico.
