What is a paragraph?
A paragraph is a collection of related sentences dealing with a single topic.
A paragraph contains:

An introduction
-
supporting sentences
-
conclusion.
Introduction
-
You introduction should state the main idea of your paragraph. What are you going to be writing about?
Example of a basic introduction:
There are three reasons why I think Canada is one of the best countries in the world.
Supporting Sentences

The supporting sentences develop and explain the main idea of your paragraph. It contains facts, examples and ideas.

It often answers some of the following questions: who / what / where / when / how and even why.

The supporting sentences need to be relevant to the main idea.
Example of basic supporting sentences:
First, Canada has an excellent health care system. Second, Canada continues to have a high standard of education and finally, most cities in Cananda are clean and well run.
Conclusion

The conclusion either restates or summarizes the main idea introduced in your introduction.

It may also contain your personal feeling about your topic.

It is used to sum up the paragraph so the reader knows the paragraph is finished.

The conclusion should not introduce new ideas.
Example of a conclusion,
As a result, Canada is a desirable place to live.
In conclusion, Canada is a great model for other nations of the world to follow.
For these reasons, Canada is a great country with happy citizens. Who wouldn't want to live here?
